The director of “I, Tonya”. Craig Gillespie is in talk to be the new director of upcoming Disney’s live-action “Cruella” movie.
Alex Timbers, who was originally set to direct the film had to drop out the project due to the scheduling issues with his Broadway productions of “Moulin Rouge” and “Beetlejuice” that will begin next year.
Oscar winner, Emma Stone has been casted as the titular character Cruella de Vil. And the film will see Stone in what will be an origin story for the titular villain. It is said to be set in the early 1980s with a punk vibe.
Aline Brosh McKenna will write the script. Andrew Gunn, Marc Platt and Kristin Burr will be the producers of the film.
Cruella de Vil is a novel character wrote by Dodie Smith entitled “The Hundred and One Dalmatians”, which later, Disney adapted into an animation film. In 1996 Cruella de Vil made a debut in live-action film under the title “101 Dalmations” and played by Glenn Close .
